New in NOT stock: Natural & Organic Wines
Since NOT opened its doors 4 years ago, our main goal has been to search for the best natural wines from Argentina and bring them to the Netherlands.
Even though the natural wines scene continues to be relatively small and emerging, it has been growing steadily; not only thanks to the hands of small and artisan producers but also by large winemakers. Increasingly more producers are oriented towards organic, biodynamic, sustainable practices in the vineyard and low intervention in the winery.
We are very happy and excited to have added to our selection a beautiful collection of natural wines from 5 producers that we like very much and that, at the same time, produce very different wines.
These producers are: (i) Canopus; (ii) Casa de Uco; (iii) Escala Humana; (iv) Finca Las Payas; and (v) Paso a Paso
(i) Canopus: “los vinos del frío” (wines of the cold region), by Gabriel Dvoskin, come from El Cepillo, Valle de Uco, Mendoza. This is a territory of calcareous soils, extreme temperatures, and capricious winds. Ten hectares of vineyards to give a clear and natural sense to the wines. The farm is certified organic (LETIS), with biodynamic practices, stimulating all forms of life in the place and respecting the conditions of origin. In the winery, the wines follow natural processes, without corrections nor addition of yeasts. And the aging takes place in used French barrels or ceramic spheres. The wines are born from the decision to seek purity and precision and that is why their attributes are finesse, textured and with character.
NOT Stock: Canopus Blanco Viejas Viñas (Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon); Malbec de Sed (93% Malbec, 7%Sauvignon Blanc); and Y la Nave va (100% Malbec without added sulfites)
(ii) Casa de Uco: Sebastian Bisole and Alberto Antonini from Los Chacayes, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, one of the most prestigious appellations from the Valley. The wines are made with indigenous yeasts, achieving the most authentic expression of the grape and staying faithful to the terroir from which they originate. They perform a micro-harvest, from which grapes with common properties are obtained. The organic winery has the endorsement of IAO (International Agricultural Organization), currently certified in 20 hectares of the vineyard. Two years ago started the process to obtain an organic certification for all grape production, which is expected in 2022.
NOT Stock: Salvaje Orange (70% Chardonnay, 30% Torrontes); Salvaje Malbec (100% Malbec).
(iii) Escala Humana: from Tupungato, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, led by German Massera from his unique vineyards of Malvasia and Bequijnol to produce delicious and surprising wines. This boutique winery is family owned aiming to preserve the nature and create natural and unconventional wines.
NOT Stock: Livvera Malvasia Orange, only one barrel of this, sourced from 17 rows of vines in El Zampal planted in 1927; & Livvera Bequignol exotic French red grape, from old vines in El Zampal, it is a fresh and light wine.
(iv) Finca Las Payas: by the hand of Santiago Salgado, handcrafted and unrepeatable wines, some items do not exceed 300 bottles and then they are only produced once. These are certainly unique wines for curious people. The INV (National Viticulture Institute) certifies the suitability of the wines and limits their production to a maximum of 12,000 liters per year. Wines are sulfited as little as possible, sometimes only the acidity is corrected. No preservatives or stabilizers are added.
NOT Stock: Soles Naciendo de unos Peces - Serna (Orange) only 499 bottles; Moscato di Cardinale (Orange Moscatel) the only wine made every year; LIBRE Corvina only 282 bottles & Tinto Las Payas (Cabernet Sauvignon 2017).
(v) Paso a Paso: Norberto Páez and Sebastián Bisole found in 2010 a 72-year-old Bonarda grape vine, located in El Cepillo, San Carlos, Mendoza and started the production of a very special wine, which later obtained a Silver medal in the “Bonarda Argentina 2015” contest. The wines are microvinified made with an authentically artisan concept with meticulous care and personal monitoring by their own winemakers.
NOT Stock: Paso a Paso Bonarda, unfiltered.
